I work at Owen Oil Tools, an explosives manufacturing plant in Johnson County, Texas. Given the nature of our products, our plant is fairly remote from major population centers and I drive to work on country roads instead of major highways. I usually don't have a lot of traffic to deal with during my 20 minute (each way) commute to and from work. My drive takes me along FM 1187, FM 2231, CR 916 and CR 1000 in Johnson and Tarrant Counties. In Texas, "FM" designates farm to market roads and "CR" designates county roads (for more on the Texas highway system, click here). Most of the land along the way is ranch land punctuated here and there with rolling hills, creeks (sometimes flowing, sometimes dry), windmills, and barbed-wire fence. On some drives, I might see wildlife (deer, coyote, hawks, etc.), cattle, horses and, depending on the time of year, wildflowers. When I first started working at Owen Oil Tools, I thought the drive was pretty boring, but I've come to love it, as it's usually a relaxing drive. So, I've set about trying to capture what I see along the way and this collection are the result thus far. There may be more to come in the future, so check back periodically. Enjoy the photos.
